Word Matters

How it shapes the way we think and feel

I came to a realization recently that words matter a lot.

It all comes down to how we present ourselves to our surroundings and how, in return, it reinforces our identity, and changes how we think and feel.

This is not about forging a fake persona for attention or manipulation.

It is about how we can consciously alter the way we speak to train our brains positively, deliver clearly, and make us feel good about ourselves.

Speaking slower would give us more time to think and articulate, deescalate during heated situations.

Involving assertive words in our speech makes us feel strong and stand our ground more firmly.

Using less profanity or filler words would make us use words that are more descriptive and accurate, feeling more “cultured” (lol).

I honestly think it is challenging as it requires great self-control and self-awareness, but I have tried a few times, and they do work. Especially under circumstances where my usual way of speaking won’t work as much.

At the end of the day, we can’t forcefully change ourselves at the core, but this is a great exercise to try. Life-changing as much as it can be.

Atomic habit, you know.
