Is Solo Travel For Everyone?

The answer always lies within the action

I have just ended a 5-month solo trip.

3 months in China where I traveled from the east to the most west point (Kashgar), moved on to the middle and the south, visited 50+ cities and some of the most gorgeous landscapes I have ever seen. After that, I did a 2 months trip in Thailand, from Bangkok to the north (Pai), ending in the south at the beautiful island of Phuket.

I am still taking time to digest what has happened and adjust to the non-nomad life. But I want to take some time to talk about traveling solo.

When I tell people I have been traveling solo, I often hear two different voices — “You are so brave, I’ve always wanted to do that.” or “I would never do that, it sounds scary and I’d be bored just by myself”.

I usually don’t know how to respond, not because I don’t know what to say, but my answer would be too subjective to make any sense to a stranger.

I believe one has to experience him/herself to make a judgment.

I have talked to so many solo travelers along the way. Some fell in love with solo traveling after the first and never stopped after that. Some realized that solo travel is not for them and they prefer to stay with family and friends.
